Covid-19 outbreak completely & seriously in Hochiminh City and has caused many difficulties for urban poor, especially informal sector. Enda Viet Nam, with funding support from WEF, DEFRA UK & GPAP, has implemented an emergency relief project: “Support independent waste collectors (IWCs) and street waste pickers “ve chai” to prevent Covid-19 outbreak”.
Enda has urgently cooperated with 13 IWCs’ Cooperatives in 10 districts in HCMC and suppliers to provide a support package including 3,532 protective clothes, 1,766 bucket hats, 1,766 booths, 14,967 re-used face masks, 14,967 gloves, 1,663 headlamp flashlights, 1,663 rechargeable hanging led lights, 9,978 antibacterial sanitizer bottles, 2,120 Hand sanitizers, 663 health & accident insurances, 19,570 kg of rice, 1,957 boxes of instant noodles, 1,692 bottles of cooking oil to support 2,223 IWCs in total.
Enda has also supported 539 street waste pickers with 7,430 kg of rice, 743 boxes of instant noodles, 600 bottles of cooking oil, 203 hand sanitizers, 600 antibacterial sanitizers, 100 protective clothes, 1,800 re-used face masks and 46 million dong in cash for 230 poor street waste pickers.
These supports are very meaningful with IWCs and street waste pickers when the city is applying Directive #15 ( social distancing) and Directive #16 ( lockdown). This helps IWCs and street waste pickers overcome this very difficult time.
