1. Location: Ho Chi Minh City
2. Period: October 2017 – September 2019
3. Objectives:
– To create dynamic markets for plastic waste and encourage IWCs to pick up plastic waste for recycling as much as possible
– To strengthen IWCs organizations: creation, capacity building on citizenship, technical issues & dialogue with local authorities and support for IWCs with income generation related to plastic recycling
– To create networks of IWCs among Ho Chi Minh City in particular and among Vietnam in general to promote government regulations on 3R (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle), focus on plastic recycling
– To improve the working conditions of the IWPRs, reducing risk factors on health and raise public awareness of IWCs towards more social cohesion.
4. Results:
– At least 70% of plastic waste on domestic waste (582 tons/day) will be collected by 4,000 IWCs for recycling
– 50 IWCs’ organizations sign public service delegation contracts with local authorities or set up community-based waste pre-collection and recycling systems.
– 70% of targeted IWCs will increase their income from 25%-40%
– Network for IWCs among Vietnam will be created and recognized by authorities and community
– The 50 WRPs organizations identify the main factors of risk and reduce the risks of accidents and diseases
– At least 50% of targeted IWCs improve their access to adequate health insurance or services
– The households of the neighborhoods where they operate and the local authorities have to change the way they look upon IWCs.
