Photovoice Exhibition “Waste – Live & Think” at Green Live Festival

On the occasion of World Environment Day and Environment Month 2018, Enda Vietnam had jointed the event “Green Live Festival-Ngày Hội Sống Xanh” conducted by Hồ Chí Minh City People’s Committee with an exhibition named “Waste – Live and Think” at Le Van Tam. There had been 45 organizations and companies joining this event.

The exhibition was one activity of the project: “Towards a Higher Effectiveness (THE) of the INFORMAL SECTOR of waste pickers in (i) the MSWM and (ii) increased recycling of valuable waste components with a focus ON PLASTICS, achieved by increased social protection and income for Independent Waste Collectors (IWCs)” funded by USAID. This exhibition would aim to raise awareness of community on harmful of plastics, single use plastics, plastic bags to people’s health, environment, and especially marine and call the people to share hand on environment protection and combat plastic pollution.

At Enda’s exhibition booth, there was decorated unique and creative recycled products made by Mr. Tống Văn Thơm – independent waste collector (IWC) at District 5 and inspiring photo-voice exhibition “Waste – Live and Think”. These are stories of IWCs’ daily and work in Ho Chi Minh City.

“Waste – Live and Think” is a series of IWCs’ stories (by pictures) related to IWCs’ difficulties, concern and hope in their work and daily life. In another hand, these stories also describe the point of view of IWCs on plastic pollution (with huge amount of dirt plastics that they have seen and work on every day) and the way they reduce the amount of plastics into their live.

Besides that, Enda booth also organized other exciting activities such as games, quizzes about separating waste at source, affections of single-use-plastic, plastic bags and applied reduce-reuse-recycle plastic.
